Conny Hatch

I am drawn to the beauty in found objects the weathered texture of old wood or rusted patina on metal. The materials themselves are my main source of inspiration. Part of an old lobster trap or a rusted rake has had a life of its own, yet lends itself to having a new life in my imagination. As an artist I work on integrating these objects into a piece that first causes the viewer to see a fish or a dog and only afterward do they start to break it down to the original parts.y

The alchemy of sorting through the pieces in search of a combination that changes them from what they once were into something new is the best part of the creative process. The more difficult reality of having to track down found objects is countered by my motivation to work with materials that would otherwise be discarded. As a person that cares very much about helping to sustain and preserve our environment, I feel my art sends a message about recycling and conservation. My hope is that it also brings moments of recognition that offer refreshing engagement and good-humor.
