Jeanne MacFarland
I love the honesty of painting from direct observation. Being an alla prima and plein air painter allows me to respond to what is before me, whether it be landscape, still life, figure or portrait and to transfer the experience in paint to the canvas.
After choosing my painting Tuesday Afternoon for an award, juror and painter Robert Douglas Hunter described it as “a superb example of impressionist observation”. I feel that his comment sums up my highest hopes upon approaching each painting and humbles me before my subject each time as well. My goal is to create objects of beauty which nourish the viewer on a deep level.
