Kate Ryan
Ordinary, every day objects populate Kate Ryan's exquisite still life paintings. At first glance the work appears to be rendered with a precise realist sensibility, yet further inspection of the complex patterns of light and shadow reveal the artist's fascination with abstract forms. These intentional and sometimes subtle abstractions, give Ryan's work it's own unique style. Her use of reflection, light and shadow offer the viewer's eye a chance to witness, more than meets the eye. Ryan infuses her paintings with playfulness and possibility, thus transforming the ordinary into the realm of the extraordinary. In addition to showing at Oceanside 17 Gallery, Ryan's work has been featured at many venues including the William Scott Gallery, Tristan Gallery, the Fine Arts Work Center, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, all in Provincetown, MA, The Gallery, Vineyard Haven, MA, as well as the Yourist Gallery and Ann Arbor Art Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
